The first supermoon of 2018 will appear on New Year’s Day

There will be more than fireworks brightening up the night sky this new year. According to NASA, January’s first full moon – nicknamed ‘Wolf Moon’ – will take place on January 1st and it will be the first supermoon of the year. January 1st supermoon will also feature a total lunar eclipse.

During these events, the moon generally appears to be 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a typical full moon. They typically occur around every 13 months, according to NASA.
