High speed rail connecting the capital Seoul and the Winter Olympics host city PyeongChang has begun operation on December 22nd. During the Winter Olympics season, the high speed train will run a direct service from Incheon International Airport to Gangneung. The travel time will be just under two hours. During the Winter Olymics, there will be 51 trains scheduled to run each day. Passengers are also able to board from one of the three stations based in Seoul, Seoul Station, Cheongnyangni Station and Sangbong Station respectively, which will cut the travel time to 67 minutes.

“We want Pyeongchang 2018 to be the most accessible Games ever and the railway connection to Seoul and Incheon Airport is a big part of that,” Lee Hee Beom, President of PyeongChang 2018, said.

Passengers travelling to and from Gangneung to Seoul have been riding Mugunghwa trains which took at least 5 hours to reach it’s destination. Now things have dramatically changed.

Now passengers boarding on the high speed train running at a speed of 250 km/h, are also able to access world’s first high speed wifi LTE-R that is accessible on the train as well. Samsung announced that in partnership with Korean Telecom company KT, the world’s first LTE-R network on a high speed train is finally live.

Now passengers have the comfort of reaching their desired location fast but also gain access to the wifi provided by the rail.
