Starting in June this year, Seoul Subway’s wireless network will be 100 times faster than the current one. Korean Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) has developed 1 Gigabit (Gbps) Mobile Hotspot Network (MHN) technology and will be applied to the subway.
This technology is about 100 times faster than WiBro, which was used in the existing Wi-Fi system. It is 30 times faster than LTE base. The researchers stated that when MHN technology transfers data, 550 subway passengers can watch high-definition (HD) video at the same time.
They will launch the network beginning from Seoul Subway Line 8 and extend into other lines of the subway.
