A Pizza Hut outlet in South Korea is adding a new member to their staff – a robot that serves food to customers.
The robot waiter, named “Dilly Plate” will serve diners pizzas in a test run that began earlier this week and will run for two weeks in Mok-dong, western Seoul.
Dilly, who can handle up to 22 kilograms of food at a time, is the brainchild of the Woowa Brothers startup, the group behind food delivery app Baedal Minjok.
While Pizza Hut has named it “Dilly,” the robot’s real name is “Penny,” a self-driving dish busser created by Silicon Valley startup Bear Robotics, which was co-founded by John Ha, a former Google engineer originally from Korea.
The robot servers can carry orders to tables or bring used plates back and forth to the kitchen once the floor plan is programmed into their operating systems.
