The Russian Railways Transport Company and Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) are willing to explore opportunities for arranging rail transport between Russia, South Korea and Europe, the Russian firm said in a statement on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Russian Railways and Korail signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation.
“The sides expressed their willingness to study the conditions for arranging rail transportation between South Korea, Russia and Europe, including a trilateral project of connecting Trans-Korean Railway and the Trans-Siberian Highway, that would involve North Korea, South Korea and Russia,’’ the statement read.
The memorandum was signed during South Korean leader Moon Jae-in’s three-day visit to Russia, during which he has already met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
